Extracellular Vesicles and Cocaine-Induced Neuroinflammation

Cocaine is one of the most widely used drugs of abuse worldwide, with one of its most harmful effects being brain inflammation.

Mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) have shown to reduce inflammation yet are hard to deliver to the brain. As a result, MSC-derived extracellular vesicles (EVs), which encode the information present within MSCs, are a promising therapeutic strategy.

Here, I conducted assays like BCA and Western Blot to see how well MSC-derived EVs reduced inflammatory markers in brain cells, along with providing an end-of-internship presentation about what all I learned.

Along with my lab mentor and another lab student, I also created, filmed, and edited a video for the Lincoln Asian Center to spread awareness about addiction.
