When I was a competitor at the Scripps National Spelling Bee, I was always inspired by the spellers from Ghana, one of the only international countries with representation at the Bee. Now, I have the opportunity to serve as the spelling head coach for these students through an official collaboration with the Ghana Young Educators Foundation (YEF).
Last year, three of my students–Eugene, Newton, and Amazing-Grace–advanced to Scripps, representing Ghana and Nigeria on spelling’s biggest stage with extraordinary poise and knowledge. I am currently coaching over seventy students on their spelling journey for this upcoming spelling bee cycle.
